You will experience a warm, casual atmosphere at Living Hope.  The worship service lasts 60 minutes. We incorporate worship practices commanded in the New Testament:

Music

Let the word of Christ richly dwell within you, with all wisdom teaching and admonishing one another with psalms, hymns and spiritual songs, singing with thankfulness in your hearts to God. Colossians 3:16

The congregation should participate in singing and not merely be an audience for performers on stage. We sing a mix of traditional and contemporary music.  Our talented band includes the keyboard, organ, drums and guitar.  We value traditional hymns which have edified the Body of Christ for generations. Our music selections reinforce the truths of each Sunday’s sermon and Bible readings.

Public Bible reading

…give attention to the public reading of scripture, to exhortation and teaching.

1 Timothy 4:13

We believe in the public reading of the Bible. You will hear at least two Bible readings in addition to the sermon text. You may hear a variety of translations of the Bible during worship.

Greeting time

Greet each other warmly in the Lord.  2 Corinthians 13:12

Some first-time church guests view “greeting time” as the most unpopular feature of worship. However, we believe the Bible commands this ancient practice. We take a few moments during the worship service to warmly greet one another.

Prayer

First of all, then, I urge you that entreaties and prayers, petitions and thanksgivings, be made on behalf of all men…1 Timothy 2:1

We take time during the worship service to pray. We share things that we are thankful for, and we share burdens. Feel free to share your prayer requests with us during this time.

Preaching

Preach the word; be ready in season and out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort, with great patience and instruction. 2 Timothy 4:2

Our pastor thoroughly explains each text so that you will understand the context and how to apply it to your life.  You will find and outline/insert in your bulletin so that you can take notes.

The Lord’s Supper (Communion)

For as often as you eat this bread and drink this cup, you proclaim the Lord’s death until he comes. 1 Corinthians 11:26

We celebrate communion on the first Sunday of the month. Communion is the Lord’s Supper – it is the command and invitation of Jesus.  We invite anyone who has professed faith in Christ and intends to follow Him to join us in communion.

 Children

“Whoever receives one little child like this in My name receives Me.” Matthew 18:5

We warmly welcome children to participate in worship with their parents. Children need to watch their parents and other adults at worship. Allowing children to read scripture, perform special music and act as ushers makes them active participants in worship. The Body of Christ includes all generations worshipping together. We provide activity bags for children to help keep them occupied. We provide a nursery for those three years old and under. We dismiss the little ones to nursery during the greeting time.

Offering

Remember this: Whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows generously will also reap generously. Each of you should give what you have decided in your heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver. And God is able to bless you abundantly, so that in all things at all times, having all that you need, you will abound in every good work.  2 Corinthians 9:6-8

As our guest, please don’t feel obligated to put anything in the offering plate. Bringing our tithes and offerings is an act of worship commanded by scripture. We take time during the worship service to respond to God by thankfully giving our financial resources to sustain the ministry of Christ’s church.
